MARIETTA DAILY JOURNAL: Staff Reporter

For two months at the start of 2026 — after freelancing for a time — I worked as a staff reporter at the Marietta Daily Journal.
I was offered a position at The Weather Channel that was better for my career direction, so my time here was short, but I used it to expand my video reporting and editing skills and refresh my reporting on daily local news. I wrote 1-2 stories a day, which included taking and editing both photos and videos.
A fair amount of my reporting was based on the history of Marietta, and especially Black history, since that was one of my main assignments throughout Black History Month in February. I also wrote traditional breaking news pieces, including crime stories, feature pieces and covered political rallies, education and local restaurant news.
