About Me
Hi! I'm Ada.
This is my website — my portfolio, my resume and a collection of everything I create all in one space.
When I was 12-years-old, I took an interest in photography. I took photos on my phone and even got a cheap used camera in 2012. I've been taking photos for fun, for art and even for money since then and heavily throughout high school. Slowly, I gained an interest in video editing and made short films of family events, vacations or anything that piqued my interest. I started as a film major when I went to college.
During my time in college, I found a new passion in journalism when I started working for the independent student newspaper, The Signal. As a spring 2021 graduate of Georgia State University, I left with two degrees, — a B.A. in journalism and a B.A. in political science — a 4.05 GPA and three years of hands-on career experience under my belt. I interned for Atlanta's local magazine, radio station and newspaper: Atlanta magazine, Georgia Public Broadcasting and Atlanta Journal-Constitution. I spent years at the student paper working my way up from staff reporter to news editor to editor-in-chief. I participated in a student investigative unit, Georgia News Lab. And to cap it all off I spent a semester within the features department at CNN.
During these first three years of my career, I was extremely intentional about experimenting with different beats, topics, mediums, and writing styles. I tried my hand at technical skills like video, audio, and photo editing and even expanded into web design, newsletter writing, and social media sharing. Now with a little bit of everything under my belt, I'm ready to pursue the things I learned I love most.
Most recently, I've spent four years at Canopy Atlanta, a small, scrappy, startup nonprofit that tells stories for and by the residents of this city. There, I learned what I truly love most — and it's service to community. If I write a story that someone needs, I've fulfilled my purpose in this career. And hey, getting creative with storytelling is always fun too.
